Featured name from the NZ top 100- 2009 BOYS

JACK

In NZ

Jack was #5 in 1999, for the years 2000-2004 he sat as runner up at place #2, in 2005 he hit number one overtaking Joshua.

In 2006 at #1 the most boys called Jack were born- 534, these four years old may be popping up in NZ kindy’s.

Since 2005 Jack has regained his spot at #1, although the number of Jack’s born has declined (345)  as parents are choosing  a wider selection of names.

Globally

Jack is #1 in Australia (2008), England & Wales (2009; 8,007), Scotland (2009) and Ireland (2009). It seems the USA is the only place not catching the Jack fever- it sits at #42 in 2009.

Name for 3rd February- Ned

behindthename.com-Diminutive of EDWARD or EDMUND. It has been used since the 14th century, and may have had root in the medieval affectionate phrase mine Ed, which was later reinterpreted as my Ned.

nameberry.com-Nicknames & Variations:
Nedrick, Neddym, Neddy, Neddie.

wikpedia-Ned is a term applied to certain people in Scotland, akin to the term chav in England. The stereotypical view of a ned is a white adolescent male (although this term does not exclude females, the female equivalent is generally referred to as a Senga or Nedette)[1], of working class background, who wear brand names (particularly G-Star Raw), gold jewellery (females often wear their name in large gold lettering), and engage in hooliganism, petty criminality, loutish behaviour, fighting, underage drinking and smoking or general anti-social behaviour[2]. They are often assumed to be unemployed.

wikipedia-Edward “Ned” Kelly (June 1854/June 1855 – 11 November 1880)[1] was an Irish-Australian bushranger, and, to some, a folk hero for his defiance of the colonial authorities. Kelly was born in Victoria to an Irish convict father, and as a young man he clashed with the Victoria Police. Following an incident at his home in 1878, police parties searched for him in the bush. After he killed three policemen, the colony proclaimed Kelly and his gang wanted outlaws. A final violent confrontation with police took place at Glenrowan. Kelly, dressed in home-made plate metal armour and helmet, was captured and sent to jail. He was hanged for murder at Old Melbourne Gaol in 1880. His daring and notoriety made him an iconic figure in Australian history, folk lore, literature, art and film.
