Make way for the new son- Grayson

This post is a revamp in part of a post from Dec 2014 called “Revamped- the new sons.”

With Grayson being the highest rising name within the New Zealand top 100 2019 rising 40 places I thought it would be timely to examine to “son’s” in top 100 baby names.

Jason– was the first big “son” in New Zealand, he was #1 between 1970-1972 (inclusive), was inside the top 10 until 1983 and was in the top 100 before leaving in 2004.

Jackson was the second “son,” he entered in 1993 at #92 and rose steadily through the 90’s before reaching #43 in 2010. In 2019 it takes #26. Never as popular as Jason, perhaps owing to the popularity of Jack.

Harrison the third “son,” following five years later at #43 in 1998, he has never broken the top 30, the highest placing was #31 in 2003. Today it sits at #33.

Mason was the fourth son and second to break into the top 10, in 2014 & 2016 he was #4, 2015 #6, 2017 #8 and 2018 #10. Mason takes #14 in 2019, perhaps beginning to drop?

Hudson followed Mason 11 years later entering in 2014 #87, 2015 #77, 2016 #73, 2017 #60 before leaping to #3 in 2018. Its the highest its ever placed last year at #22, will it break the top 20 for 2020? I suspect so.

Grayson is the lastest “son” a huge leap from #98 in 2018 to #58 in 2019 showing perhaps it will be the latest son to rival Hudson.
