Comments on Ignatius:

I think Ignatius is more of a girl name and I would name a future daughter this maybe.

It’s a wondeful name. A possible nickname could be Ignace.

I think that this is a great name! It sounds classy. It is my little brother’s middle name.

Ignatius is awesome! Iggy and Nate are my favorite nicknames…

    But I can’t really imagine Ignatius on a girl…

Me either I thought that was a weird comment! I would love to make some combos with Ignatius in the middle 🙂
I like Iggy better than Nate 🙂

Maybe the -shus ending reminded her of -sha? Or maybe the Iggy nickname reminded her of Aggie, as in Agatha or Agnes…? I have no idea. Many boys’ names are used for girls (Madison, Addison, Alexis, etc.), but I really can’t see Ignatius as one of them– he sounds 100% masculine to me…

I hadn’t given Ignatius much thought before. Perhaps I’m not THAT brave. Then again, I consider Aurelia, Raphael, Augustin, etc. perfectly usable. 🙂 I haven’t made any combos recently, either, and I’m especially horrible with boys’ names. 🙂

I like Iggy and Nate equally– Iggy would be a quirkier, slightly braver option, while Nate pretty much makes an unusual name more “normal”.

Ignatius is so cute, and I agree, both Iggy and Nate are gorgeous nicknames 🙂
I don’t get that girl comment either, I wonder what made her form the opinion/ preference for it as a girl’s name?

    Definitely not a girls’ name!

I like Inigo because of Princess Bride. Don’t think I’d use it, but I’d like meeting one.

An adolescent patient at a previous job was an Ignatius. I initially balked at it but he was such good value – well mannered, extroverted, bright, witty. It grew on me a little.

The person suggesting it should be used for a girl needs a slap.

I agree a slap is in order! do yo think it could work up front in NZ?

I really couldn’t say, Anna. Iggy is fun and brings it back down to earth though. I know you’d get a very, um, mixed reaction. This particular Ignatius attended a snooty private school.
