Back to Dora

So I was thinking about how I love Dora as a nickname and found Pandora mentioned in “My sister’s keeper” so I asked hubby he automatically goes no and box. But can we not move past this? Eve is widely used yet she ate the apples off the forbidden tree… Just pondering.

I think Pandora is fine. It’s not like the mythological Pandora is as widely believed to be real as Eve; I don’t think Pandora’s story is as widely known, either. I much prefer Pandora to Eve as a name anyway. Have you read the ‘Adrian Mole’ books? One of the main characters is called Pandora, which probably made me like the name.

Hey thanks for stopping by 🙂 I agree with you, I haven’t read that series, do you recommend it? I love reading :). Hubby decided last night that he loves Thea so Dora stays on the list but Thea is now the new Dora 🙂 What are your favourite names?

I definitely recommend the series – they’re hilarious! The first one is called ‘The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, age 13 3/4’, and they’re by Sue Townsend.
Thea is cute, I think I prefer it to Dora slightly. Have you considered Dorothea? Then you could use both nicknames.
Hmm some of my favourites…. Claire, Matilda, Sarah, Violet, Tamsin, Josephine, Carlotta, Mirabel, Temperance, Bellatrix, Jezebel, Hero, Sinead, Stephanie, Ellen, Alistair, Nathaniel, Ciaran, Gabriel, Christian, Javier, Linus, Liam, etc etc

I’ll have a look when I’m at the library next thanks :). We talked about Dorothea and Theadora but decided I think that we like Thea on its own or Dora as in Isadora, I do worry with Dora about Dora the explorer! Ooh Hero is nice, I love Tilly for a nickname for Matilda! Temperance is pretty too, Ive been thinking about Gabriel lately 🙂 Do you love baby names? you have a long list!

I personally couldn’t get past it. I tossed and turned around Lilith for our daughter for my entire pregnancy as I love that name so much but I just couldn’t get past the demon connection and I am atheist. I think meanings are important. When our kids googles their names, I didn’t want devilish pictures popping up or stories about how someone with their name brought evil to the world. Now a mischievous little puppy or kitten with Lilith or Pandora would work for me.

I too like Lilith :). Thanks for stopping by 🙂 and sharing your thoughts, Hubby was still worried about the box connection, we moved on to Isadora but then he decided he loves Thea! We had Theodore on the boys list! What is your daughter’ name? what are your favourites?

Well, Mine would use Pandora up front, seeing as how it’s his Mom’s name, but I’m the one who fears the jokes. I was a tall, skinny, awkward, smart girl & was teased horribly for those things. He was born cool. I had to learn. 😛 I worry about stuff like that. So I compromised with pretty but strong up front: Cecil;y Pandora Jane. Abd she stays on the list because she honors so beautifully.

I think Pandora’s usable, but I know I’m in the minority. I’ve said this before, google PARADOXAL and you’ll find a real, live Pandora toddler (I think she’s about 2 now) Crazy Gothy parents, but a beautiful girl. Maybe you can use her to sell Pandora like I used http://araminta.wordpress.com/ to sell Araminta to mine. He’s stuck now. Araminta, he walkjs around singing. Heck, it mght be worth it to try! 😀
